Access to state-of-the-art medical care is just minutes away at the Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo. Entering its second century of seeing to the health-care needs of the nearly 20,000 people in the district, the 82-bed facility is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations JCAHO).

Fifteen local physicians comprise the hospital's active medical staff, with specialties in family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, general surgery and podiatry. The hospital also offers specialty clinics every day of the week. These physicians specialize in cardiology, oncology, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, ophthal mology, urology, and orthopedics. Audiology and pain management clinics are also provided. Their patients are seen within the specialty clinics located at Hammond-Henry and many perform surgery at the hospital's surgery center. In 1991, Quad City Kidney Center opened their dialysis center within the hospital. Their service saves many local patients considerable travel time on an ongoing basis.

Throughout its existence, Hammond Henry has constantly sought to upgrade and expand its services. The recent addition of a two-story Physicians and Surgery Center brought local medical professionals to the hospital campus, as well as surgical care from local and regional surgeons. The latest addition to the campus includes a new third-floor to accommodate all inpatient services in a more patient- and family-focused healing environment.

A sampling of the healing to be found at the hospital includes, but is not limited to, cardiac rehabilitation - exercise programs, education and encouragement for lifestyle changes to individuals with cardiac problems; Circle of Care - a broad range of services and assistance delivered in the home; award-winning emergency center care, certified in trauma and cardiac life support; physical, occupational and speech therapy; the Birth Place - combining qualified nursing, modern technology, and private rooms to ensure that families have a safe, memorable birth experience. Area skilled care facilities supplement the hospital's skilled care units and the area also is home to a wide selection of independent, private-practice physicians plus dentists, optometrists, chiropractors, vision specialists, massage therapists, and other health professionals.

Attending to the needs of both large and small animals are several veterinarians in the area, including one who resides and practices in rural Atkinson.
